Biography

Prof. Dr. Erdal Karaoz is one of Turkey’s pioneers in regenerative medicine and stem cell research. With more than 30 years of academic and clinical experience, he founded the first institutional R&D center for stem cell and gene therapy in Turkey – the Kocaeli University Stem Cell and Gene Therapies Research Center (KÖGEM) (2006). He currently serves as the Director of LivMedCell, the GMP-certified regenerative medicine and stem cell production center at Liv Hospital Istanbul. Prof. Karaöz has led or contributed to dozens of Ministry-approved clinical studies using allogeneic stem cells for diseases such as cerebral palsy, autism, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, and retinitis pigmentosa. He also served as Vice Rector (2015 – 2019) and later Rector (2019 – 2022) of İstinye University, establishing multiple national research centers in biotechnology, neurology, oncology, and artificial intelligence.
